When The Eagles stopped to catch their breath a few decades ago, having sold over 100 million records, collected six Grammy’s, and enjoyed six #1 albums, Hotel California began a pioneering journey through their history-making music that has taken them around the globe and thrilled hundreds of thousands of Eagles fans. It’s been a journey they could never have imagined back in 1986, but their dedication, unique musical gifts, and an obsessive commitment to doing this legendary music true justice in performance, set them apart from the many Eagles bands that came after them. “A primeira vez que o empresário de John dos anos 80, Doug Belscher, me conheceu em Aspen, ele expressou seu espanto em como eu era muito parecido com seu querido amigo. Desde aquela época e antes, muitas pessoas próximas a John expressaram suas experiências semelhantes a esta. Eu me sinto profundamente conectada a John não apenas por meio de sua música e letras, mas também porque somos almas sensíveis. Como cristão, acredito muito em Deus e acredito na superintensão e essas são coisas que podemos não compreender totalmente, mas acredito que há evidências em todos os lugares. ”
Já se passaram mais de 20 anos desde que Denver faleceu, e Schuler diz que se lembra da tristeza que sentiu naquele dia, mas também reconhece que foi misteriosamente comovido por Deus. “Lembro-me de perceber que talvez agora eu seria capaz de transmitir a mensagem de John para ele”, diz ele. “Sua mensagem tão claramente é de amor a Deus, amor pela terra, paz, assim como amor pela humanidade.
É estranho como os estranhos se sentem imediatamente conectados a Schuler, simplesmente porque ele reflete Denver tanto no corpo quanto no espírito. E apesar da morte de John há mais de duas décadas, sua música continua a tocar o mundo, prova com mais de cem milhões de visualizações dos vídeos de Denver no YouTube. “John era um romântico, um antimaterialista em um mundo materialista, que cantava com o coração enquanto carregava sua alma. Eu compartilho isso com ele, e isso me conecta com as pessoas. ” Além disso, diz ele, a história também é um grande conector. “CS Lewis disse isso melhor quando afirmou que se deve ler livros antigos para deixar a brisa dos séculos soprar em sua mente. É nisso que a música e a arte de John se inserem, essa consciência maior que é atemporal. ”
Além de apresentar os sucessos de Denver, Schuler escreve e executa seus próprios sucessos, incluindo “Rainmaker”, uma música-tema que toca em 35 milhões de lares todas as semanas. Entre suas letras está uma máxima de Schuler: “Viva para inspirar e se inspirar ...” Rick tem quatro álbuns no iTunes e um projeto recém-gravado em Nashville aguardando lançamento ainda este ano. Assim como John Denver era conhecido por apresentar a Oração do Senhor na linguagem de sinais dos índios americanos, Rick a executa em hebraico antigo e, em seguida, faz seu público cantar com ele as letras em inglês. “Um dos poetas favoritos de Rick, Rilke, escreveu: 'A música é a linguagem onde toda a linguagem termina.' É assim que me sinto sobre a mensagem de John. Estou muito grato por ser um portador de seu legado. ”
